SUBMISSIONS PROCESS
* Winter 2021 Update*
bedfellows is currently rolling out a special anthology issue, Little Black Book, featuring 60+ new works from previously published authors, in celebration of our tenth issue!
We will officially re-open for submissions in spring 2021 & are not currently reading. However, feel free to get in touch! We would be happy to file your submission for issue eleven consideration, & we understand if you would like to withdraw at any point due to our biannual schedule.
bedfellows is primarily solicitation-based. We prefer to find & get to know writers in a community-focused way-- at readings, in other literary magazines, word-of-mouth, social media, etc.-- instead of waiting for them to come to us. We feel that representation of a wide range of perspectives & identities can only happen if editors are proactive in their efforts to amplify the work of women, queer & trans* folks, POC, & other marginalized voices.
Twice a year, the editors compile a list of writers whom we want to feature & solicit them prior to putting together an issue. This may be the opposite of reading "blind", but it doesn’t mean that we solicit based on where writers have been published, which awards they’ve won, or how many followers they have. We want readers to experience bedfellows with equal interest in each piece & each writer, so we publish the TOC in the back of the print magazine & include it on a separate page online. We believe in celebrating accomplishments, but if you're looking for bio blurbs, you won't find them here.
While we don't have a traditional submission/reading cycle, our list of desired contributors is never static. We’re always open to reading your work! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you feel that your work might be a good fit.
